Howard Zinn (1922-2010) was a renowned US historian and peace activist and winner of numerous awards for his work. Zinn owed his fame to his book A People's History of the United States, published in 1980, where he describes American history from the perspective of ordinary people outside the political and economic establishment. Workers, Native Americans, slaves, African Americans, women, populists and others, whose struggles often remained unrecognized and undocumented.
