Society

In the FRG, many women take to the streets from the 1970s, fighting for equal rights in society, work and family. Along the lines of "My belly belongs to me", the women’s movement demands a reform of paragraph 218, which criminalises abortion. First women’s refuge centres are opened to provide protection against domestic violence. In the GDR, in turn, women are free to decide on their family planning. While many are working and thus financially independent, the double burden of job and family is a heavy load. As of 1982, they are also ordered to military serve under arms. The "Women for Peace" movement questions this ideal socialist female role model. Their commitment, also for human rights and democracy, is a decisive step towards the peaceful revolution of 1989. | In this film version, German interviews and historical or literary quotes remain untranslated. mehr weniger
