20. Jahrhundert: 1945 bis heute | Geteiltes Deutschland 1949-1969
Society in Upheaval
After the post-war years full of privation, many people regain modest prosperity in the 1950s and 1960s. Especially in the Federal Republic of Germany, where the economic miracle ensures well-stocked shelves and general satisfaction. Many try to forget the horrors of war, also via the ideal world depicted in sentimental "Heimat" films. Only the young rebel, rejecting conservative politics and social constraints. They now dance to rock ’n’ roll and beat music. Hairstyles, clothes, attitudes – they do everything differently and thereby cause a stir. Even more so in the GDR than in the West. The SED wants to see a youth in full service of socialism – obedient and loyal. Those who do not conform get to feel the long arm of state power. | In this film version, German interviews and historical or literary quotes remain untranslated.
