The Cold War 1945-1991
The Cold War between the USA and the Soviet Union lasts for more than 40 years. It is an ideological conflict that is carried out by propaganda and on the basis of a military arms race, rather than by warlike means. It is characterised by so-called proxy wars, designed to expand one’s own sphere of influence. Such as the Vietnam War, in which the communist-ruled North – militarily supported by the Soviet Union and China – fights against the US-backed military regime in the South. For the USA, the war turns into a disaster, as its ground forces are hopelessly inferior to the Vietcong guerrilla fighters. However, it still wins the Cold War.
