War Experiences
The start of the war in 1914 triggers enthusiasm among many people. The reality of the war, however, quickly dispels the euphoria. In 1918, many soldiers return home deeply traumatised. They have experienced unspeakable cruelty. As a result, some of them break down. Others try to process their experiences in literature. A theatre group from Münster presents excerpts from these harrowing testimonies in front of war memorials. The texts are taken from the novels "Higher Command" (Heeresbericht) by Edlef Köppen, "War" (Krieg) by Ludwig Renn and "All Quiet on the Western Front" (Im Westen nichts Neues) by Erich Maria Remarque.
